5.1. Concept Testing - 1 Concept
Refined one-sentence statement (my gap): In what way might I have a totebag that covers all my needs wherever I go and also serves as a standard purse that can be opened/closed with one hand? I can make it so that it is big enough to hold the biggest item I need occasionally (specifically canvas 30x40 cm); it can serve as a standard purse; it opens/closes with one hand, and it also fulfills aesthetic aspects.
Based on the results of my surveys (surveys page WEEK 5a), my own preferences and experiments, I’ve decided to pursue only one concept, i.e. concept “G” with noose and button closure (shown as #1 on the surveys page). By the way, I learnt from one of the comments I got that this kind of closure is called "toggle".
But, there are a couple of details from the concept “A” (shown as #2 on the surveys page) which I intend to combine with the concept “G” (for example, the bottle holder which originally was not designed for this concept).
Since I've already solved the need 'big enough' (i.e. it holds the biggest item I need occasionally) in the previous week(s), additionally, during this fifth week I've focused on two other primary needs: ‘serves as a purse’ and ‘it is convenient to arrange items in it’, which are related to the inside of my multipurpose totebag. As the picture is worth a thousand words, I 'resort' to the following slideshow (preferring the picture to the sketching!) in order to show what I've done in this week:

On the other end, the aesthetic aspects, as another primary need of mine, are also an imperative, which I'll finish in the next week.
5.2. Surveys
(I put the link to the surveys page in order not to 'overcrowd' this homework page)
The results of the surveys I conducted in order to decide what concept to pursue:
Survey 1
WHICH VERSION OF THE TWO BAGS WOULD YOU CHOOSE.
A total of 30 respondents took part in the survey.
Out of 30 respondents, 20 (67%) have chosen #1, while 10 (33%) selected #2.
Females account for 23 votes (77%), males for 7 votes (23%)
Females have voted strongly in favour of concept #1 - 15 votes (65%) compared to 8 votes (35%) for #2
Males have shown even stronger preference for concept #1, giving it 5 votes (71%) compared to 2 votes (29%) for concept #2
Looking at age groups represented by more than 1 voter, distribution is as follows:
26-40 group overwhelmingly prefers concept #1 - it got 10 out of 11 votes (91%)
41-55 group shows mild preference for concept #1 - 5 out of 8 votes (62%)
Over 56 group is evenly split - 4 out of 8 (50%) voted for either concept.
Although I don't have intention to sell the totebag I'm designing for myself, I was curious to learn what people think about it, so I conducted the 'purchase intent' survey too.
Survey 2 (with 26 participants): HOW LIKELY WOULD YOU BE TO BUY:
Total of 26 respondents have shown strong preference for concept #1, giving it 19 votes (73%) as opposed to 7 votes (17%) given to concept #2.
In terms of likelihood of purchasing the product, 9 respondents (35%) have not indicated how likely they are to make the purchase, choosing the answer "I don't know".
The remaining 17 respondents have indicated their intent as follows:
4 would definitely buy the product (24%). Overall, they represent 15% of voters.
8 would probably buy the product (47%). Overall, this group represents 31% of voters.
4 would probably not buy (24%). This group also accounts for 15% of all voters.
1 would definitely not buy (5%). They account for 4% of all voters.
